Maria G. Mendonca – age 97, wife of the late Antonio L. Mendonca died peacefully Saturday, March 15, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in the Azores in Portugal, March 16, 1928, a daughter of the late Jose and Maria (Pereira) Garcia and lived in Portugal, Africa and Somerville before moving to Billerica 11 years ago.
Maria was employed for United Electric in Watertown before her retirement. She was a very talented self-made Fashion Designer making her own clothing and was very talented knitting and crocheting and sought out by all the high end boutiques and countless individuals.
Maria is survived by her children, Marisa DaSilva and her husband Frank of Billerica and Jose Antonio Mendonca and his wife Diana of Tampa, FL; her brother, Leonildo Vargas of Portugal and is also survived by her four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held Monday, March 17 at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 4-7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 10 a.m. Her burial will take place at the Fox Hill Cemetery in Billerica.
