Maria Airo-Farulla (LoCacciato) – Age 80, of Somerville MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, August 3, at Lahey Hospital in Burlington MA. Maria was born in Palermo, Italy, September 17, 1942, daughter of the late Matteo LoCacciato, the late Antonina LoCacciato (Ricotta), and the late Giuseppa LoCacciato (Ricotta); predeceased by Angelo Airo-Farulla.
She is survived by her three daughters, Teresa Cugno and husband Daniel of Billerica MA, Antonina Petruzziello and husband Luigi of Melbourne, Australia and Rosangela Roman and husband Cory of Westford MA; her brother, Giuseppe LoCacciato and wife Giovanna of Palermo, Italy and her beloved grandchildren; Matteo, Cristian, Marco, Dante, Massimo, Alessio, Lucas and Alessa Maria; along with many loving cousins in Italy.
Maria immigrated to the United States in 1976 and was a lifelong resident of Somerville, MA. A true master of her craft, she was a world-class seamstress and dressmaker with every creation nothing short of perfection. While she had a sense of pride for everything she did in life, her proudest accomplishments were her three daughters and the title of “Nonna” to her eight grandchildren; for whom she always kept well fed with her incredible Italian cuisine.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, August 8 at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 4-7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 10 a.m. Her burial will take place at the Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
