Obituary for Manuel Ferreira
Manuel “Papa Manny” Ferreira – Age 95, husband of the late Isabelle M. (Caio) Ferreira died Thursday at his granddaughter’s home. He was born in Madeira, Portugal, January 6, 1920, a son of the late John Ferreira and Matilde (Major) Ferreira and lived in Somerville, Cambridge and Arlington before moving to Billerica 17 years ago. While living in Somerville, Mr. Ferreira entered the Army and served during WW II. Mr. Ferreira was employed as a Painter at the Cambridge City Hospital for many years prior to his retirement and later continued to be a self employed painter. During his retirement Papa Manny loved spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids. He was a lifelong fan of the Boston Bruins and loved the horses at Suffolk Downs. He loved to walk around town and visit with friends at the Center Café, he would also walk to the “Blue Store” while he lived in Tewksbury to play the Lottery and get his scratch tickets. When visiting with family in Revere he would visit friends at the Moose Club and the Blue Diner and frequent the Flea Market. He is survived by his son John Ferreira and his wife Edwina of Billerica; his daughters, Dolores Canfield of Weare NH and Maria Ferreira of Revere; his brother, Sonny Ferreira of Las Vegas, NV and his sister, Gilda Medeiros and her husband Joe of Burlington. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Alice Closs and grandfather of the late John C. Ferreira Jr., Richard Canfield and Gerry Ocasio. FERREIRA – Of Billerica, May 21, Manuel “Papa Manny” Ferreira, Funeral Tuesday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 10 a.m. A graveside service will be held at Fox Hill Cemetery, 130 Andover Rd., Billerica at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4 – 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701
