Leo J. Bauer, age 73 of Billerica; beloved husband of Vickie J. (Barry) Bauer, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Lahey Medical Center in Burlington following a short illness.
Born in Lowell on May 14, 1951, he graduated from Billerica High School in 1970. Leo was the son of the late Francis “Frank” Bauer and Charlotte (Cartier) Bauer.
For many years prior to his retirement, Leo was a supervisor for Base Supply at Hanscom Air Force Base and proudly served as a Sergeant in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Leo will always be remembered for being a devoted family man. He enjoyed woodworking, building model airplanes and ships. He loved playing his guitars and painting scenic and animal portraits. Leo also had a great passion for reading books about American History and the Civil War. When Leo realized that his wife’s cooking needed improvement, well, let’s just say he became the master chef of the household.
Besides his wife of 43 years, Leo is survived by his son, Walter Clayton and his wife Ozioma of Carmel, Indiana; his sister, Mary Sherman of Billerica; sister-in-law Pam Stout and her husband Walter of Pryor, Oklahoma; brother-in-law John Barry and his wife Barbara of Utica, MS; his beloved grandchildren, Michaelfrank, Michelle, Kayla, Reign, Sariah and Onyx; and his beloved dog, Dallas. In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Letitia “Tish” Morehead; his father-in-law, Bill Morehead and a brother-in-law, Henry “Hank” Sherman.
At the request of the family, all services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leo’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
