Leo C. O’Neil Sr. – age 93, husband of the late Dorothy M. (Lynch) O’Neil died peacefully Friday, February 16 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Boston, November 23, 1930, a son of the late John and the late Margaret (O’Connell) O’Neil and was raised in Charlestown and moved to Billerica 67 years ago.
Leo proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was employed as an Appraiser for Safety Insurance in Boston for 19 years before his retirement. He was a member of the Billerica Lodge of Elks.
Leo is survived by his daughters, Judi Wanamaker and her husband Stephen of Billerica and Patricia O’Neil of Dracut; his sister, Alice Sniegoski of Lynn and is also survived by his six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Leo and Robert O’Neil and brother of the late Joseph and Robert O’Neil.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20 at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 4-7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Andrew Church, Talbot Ave., N. Billerica at 10 a.m. Burial will military honors will take place at the Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica. Memorial contributions may be made in Leo’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
