Obituary for Lawrence J. Keegan
BILLERICA - Lawrence J. Keegan, age 88, slipped away peacefully on December 28, 2016 at Lowell General Hospital to be with his beloved wife Jean. Married on October 29, 1950 they shared 64 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2014. Lawrence was born on March 17, 1928 to John and Ellen Keegan. He grew up in South Boston, Mass. He attended South Boston High School and then enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Boxer during World War II. After the service Lawrence made his living as a mechanic and auto body repair man.

Lawrence was a jack of all trades. There were very few things that he couldn't put his hand on to fix or build. He helped countless people repair and maintain their automobiles and homes. He was never too busy to help someone out. He was a talented carpenter, building his own house from the ground up. In later years he helped several of his children do the same and build their own homes. His grandchildren had a custom built playhouse and fort in Grampie's yard. He also loved to garden and kept everyone supplied with his fresh grown tomatoes. During his leisure time he loved to spend time in Tabusintac, New Brunswick on the farm where his wife's grandparents lived. He and Jean spent many weeks of summer there both before and after retirement with family and friends. Many wonderful memories were created there.

Lawrence leaves five children: Kathleen Jacques and her husband Clifford of Windham, NH, John Keegan and his wife Cheryl of Pepperell, MA, Charles Keegan and his wife Linda of Pelham, NH, Jean Lucas and her husband Wayne of Pelham, NH and Lawrence Keegan, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Billerica, MA.

Grampie also leaves twelve loving and adoring grandchildren: Nicole (Jacques) Callahan and her husband William, Heather and Dan Jacques, Wayne Paul and Stephanie Lucas, Kelly (Keegan) Mannarino and her husband Matthew, Erin (Keegan) Cox and her husband Philip, Joseph, Andrew, Colleen, Edward and Carolyn Keegan. He leaves a mark on each and every one of their hearts that will never be equaled. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Rory and Riley Callahan, Shane Cox and Baby Mannarino who is due in March. We know Grampie and Nannie will both be smiling down on the day of her arrival.

Lawrence is also survived by his two brothers George Keegan and his wife Marie of Braintree, William Keegan of South Boston and his sister Alice Ego of Randolph, Mass. He was predeceased by his brother Leo Keegan.

The Family would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff Lowell General Hospital Saints Campus and the staff at Wingate Rehab Facility. The kindness and care you shared with our Dad has been truly appreciated.
