Obituary for Kathleen B. "Betty" McElaney
Kathleen B. “Betty” (Myers) McElaney, age 103, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, January 12th, 2021.
She was born on October 3, 1917 in London, England to the late John Joseph and Mary (Murphy) Myers. Betty moved to the United States in 1946 after marrying her beloved husband, the late John Francis McElaney. She then had the joy of raising her family in both Newton and Belmont before moving to Chelmsford in 2003.
When Betty wasn’t working as a salesclerk for Filenes, she enjoyed traveling, shopping and spending time with her family and friends. One of her proudest moments was receiving a letter from the Queen of England congratulating her on her 100th birthday.
She is survived by her two sons, Michael McElaney and his wife Patricia of Natick and John Patrick McElaney and his wife Linda of FL; her four daughters, Kathryn Challingsworth and her partner Ken Prince of TX, Marian Howes and her husband Darryl of Hudson NH, Theresa Gilman and her husband James of Chelmsford and Mary Sueltenfuss and her late husband Michael of Wakefield. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren as well as a large, loving extended family and tremendous group of friends.
At her request, all services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Lawrence, MA 01843.
