Karen Jean Mahoney passed away peacefully on January 17, 2023, with both of her daughters at her bedside.
Karen was born in Cambridge, MA in 1947 to Francis Felcon and Margaret Dussault and was the oldest of five sisters - something she liked to remind them of often. She enjoyed a long and successful career as a Materials Manager for Varian, Inc.
Karen was fiercely independent, taking pride in her thoughtfully manicured yard and meticulously cleaned house. She enjoyed her tea and crossword puzzles every morning and always had a good book on her table with a Western on TV in the background. She was a creature of habit but loved recounting stories of her vacations in Vermont or sharing a good recipe.
Karen is predeceased by her husband, James “Nip” Nerpouni Jr., and is survived by her daughters Kimberly Roche and her husband Matt and Kaitlyn Lauf and her husband Michael, as well as her sisters, Maureen McCauley (Larry, decd. 2018), Pamela Carney (Kevin) and Sandra Donnelly (Paul) and her many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister, Paula Ferrari (Bernie).
Karen loved nothing more than her four grandchildren, Kailey, Matthew, Josephine and Georgie. They were her greatest joys in life and she often wouldn’t let them leave a room without proclaiming, “where’s Mimi’s kiss?” The saying on her doormat may have put it best, “Grandchildren welcome, others tolerated”. We love you Mimi!
Services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home in Billerica, MA, followed by a graveside service at Fox Hill Cemetery in Billerica. Celebration of life to follow.
