Obituary for Joseph S. Hayes Jr.
Joseph S. Hayes Jr. – Age 91, husband of the late Dorothy A. (Keefe) Hayes died Tuesday Dec. 20 at the Blaire House in Tewksbury. He was born in Cambridge, Feb. 13, 1920, the son of the late Joseph S. Hayes Sr. and Katherine (White) Hayes. He was raised in Cambridge, graduating from Cambridge High and Latin before entering the United States military. At the age of 16, Mr. Hayes joined the Civilian Conservation Corp. before enlisting in the Army-Air Corp. After serving during WW II, Mr. Hayes was honorably discharged from the Army Air Corp and then enlisted in the United States Air Force, becoming one of the first contract officers in the Air Defense Command. After serving 20 years, Mr. Hayes retired from the Air Force and became Fleet Maintenance Manager for the Clark and Reid Company in Burlington where he worked for 22 years. In 1971 Mr. Hayes moved to Billerica where he was a resident for 40 years. He is survived by his daughter, Katherine Lavallee of Billerica; his grandchildren, Dorothy LaPusata and her husband Joseph of Concord; Joseph Lavallee of Billerica; his great grandchildren, Isabella and Alexander LaPusata and his sisters, Jane Erickson of Belmont and Margaret Walsh of Concord, NH. Mr. Hayes was the brother of the late John and Francis Hayes and Ruth Hiltz. HAYES – Of Billerica, Dec. 20, Joseph S. Hayes Jr., Funeral Friday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 8 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa Church at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Burial in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
