Joseph E. McDonald Sr, age 91, beloved husband of 69 years of Joan C. (Condon) McDonald died Wednesday, April 1, at Lowell General Hospital – Main Campus after a brief illness.
He was born in Medford, October 31, 1934 a son of the late Edward J. and Jeannette (Carideo) McDonald and lived in E. Boston and Winthrop before moving to Billerica in 1966.
Joseph proudly served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and went on to a Long career with Honeywell/Bull as a Senior Test Engineer.
He was a member of the Billerica Lodge of Elks, the Masons and in his spare time he enjoyed tinkering with all types of equipment and making wine. He will also be remembered for riding his motorcycle until he was 80.
Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter, Allison Wolf and her husband Glenn of Billerica; two sons, Joseph McDonald Jr. and his wife Christine of Haverhill and Kevin McDonald of Billerica; one sister Jeanne Hallenborg of Warner, NH as well as six grandchildren, Crystal Iaci of Derry, NH, Kyle Seaborne and his fiancé, Jessica of Chelmsford, MA, Patrick McDonald and his wife, Amber of Salem, VA, Conway Seaborne and his fiancé Sarah of Dracut, MA, Michael McDonald and Zachary McDonald of Billerica MA, and nine great-grandchildren, Justin, Brooke, Kayla, Aubrey, Rori, Katherine, Stella, Thomas and Charlotte. He was the brother of the late Theresa Armstrong, Ann Oliva and Edward McDonald.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Followed by a Graveside Service at the Fox Hill Cemetery, 130 Andover Rd., Billerica at 12:30 p.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
