John Lucas McKay, age 65, a loving, generous, loyal and compassionate man passed away unexpectedly in his home on September 22nd, 2025.
John was born in Lowell, Ma on January 4th, 1960 to the late Frederick McKay and Nancy (Baxter) McKay-Gunther. John was a self-employed contractor and a lifelong resident of Billerica. His greatest joys in life were his children, grandchildren, and riding his motorcycle any chance he had. John succeeded in both the role of mother and father, as he raised his five children solely on his own. John was an incredible soul; sacrificing any and everything he could for those in need. He was a member of the Billerica Lodge of Elks and of the Community Congregational Church and would often enjoy breakfast with friends after attending.
John put his children and grandchildren above all else. He was the loving father of Ashley McKay of Billerica, Amanda McKay of Tiverton, Brian McKay, Michael McKay, and the late Christopher McKay. John was the cherished grandfather “Brampy” to Sophia and Justin Jr, as well as the proud father in law of Justin Pacheco. John is survived by his siblings Rick McKay, Cindi (McKay) Lefebvre, David McKay, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other close relatives.
John was amazing at raising his children, from teaching them how to swim to teaching them how to drive, but also to forming his daughters into the parents they are today. He continued these memories teaching Sophia and Justin many things in the short time they were blessed to have him. If he were here today, he would tell you he is the blessed one.
John had many close friends and each would say “Johnny is a great guy”, “your dad is the last of his kind”, and “there is nobody like him”, just to name a few. Now more than ever, those words couldn’t be more true.
In honor of this incredible soul, there will be services held October 4th from 1-4pm at Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home. Pastor Daniel Snape of Community Congregational Church will deliver a prayer service at 3:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, Joslin Diabetes Center, and/or the Community Congregational Church.
