Obituary for John 'Jack' F. Horan
John “Jack” F. Horan – Age 86, beloved husband of Susan J. (Jean) Horan died Wednesday at their home in Newfields, NH. He was born in Boston, May 14, 1925, the son of the late Carroll W. Horan Sr. and Frances R. (Quinn) Horan and lived in Billerica most of his life before moving to Exeter and then Newfields, NH. Following his two brothers, Mr. Horan joined the military at the age of 17 and served in the Navy during WW II and was a member of the Tin Can Sailors. Mr. Horan joined the Billerica Police Department in 1947 and later transferred to the Billerica Fire Department in 1954 and served until his retirement in 1979. After his retirement, Mr. Horan founded Mr. Jack’s Catering in Billerica and ran the business for many years with his son Joseph. He also operated the J.F. Horan Company in Billerica doing home improvements. He was a member of the Billerica Lodge of Elks and the Billerica V.F.W. Solomon Post. He enjoyed many hobbies and was an accomplished woodworker and craftsman. Besides his wife, Mr. Horan was survived by his sons, John and Joseph Horan of Billerica, James Horan of Lowell, Skip Galvin of Exeter, NH, Thomas Galvin of Seattle, WA and Edward Galvin of Chicago, IL.; his daughters, Donna Menagus of E. Falmouth, Patricia Keefe of Medford, Paula McMahon on Swansea, NH, Susan Barosky of Hampstead, NH, Linda Hunter of Durham, NH and Patricia Gebo of Newfields, NH. He is also survived by 38 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Mr. Horan was the husband of the late Geraldine (Ricard) Horan, brother of the late Carroll “Bill” Horan Jr. and Thomas Horan and grandfather of the late James Horan. Funeral Saturday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 8 a.m. A graveside service will be held at the Fox Hill Cemetery, 130 Andover Rd., Billerica at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Friday from 4-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 220 N. Main St., Natick, MA 01760
