Obituary for John W. Watson Jr.
John W. Watson Jr., age 90, beloved husband of Marie M. (Morrison) Watson died unexpectedly on Wednesday at their home.
John was born in Columbus, MS, on November 19, 1926, son of John W. Watson, Sr. and Helen (Caine) Watson and lived in Lexington for 30 years before moving to Billerica in 1998.
Mr. Watson was a graduate of West Point and served proudly as Lt. Col. in the U.S. Army for 22 years, including 3 ½ years as a POW during the Korean War. After retiring from the Army, John worked as an employment counselor for Massachusetts State Employment Office. He also earned his Masters degree in education and became a LPN. During his years of retirement Mr. Watson also served as Ordained Permanent Deacon and volunteered for 20 years at the Bedford VA Hospital.
John and Marie were blessed to be married for 66 wonderful years. John was the cherished father of Deborah Ithomitis of Beaufort, SC, Jan Watson of Billerica, Pamela Donovan of San Antonio, TX, Diane Scott of Emerald Isle, NC, and Lisa Flaherty of Hollis, NH. He was also the loving papa of 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
John will be remembered for his gentle spirit, caring ways, and devotion to God and country. His love and commitment to family and friends was boundless. John’s zest for life and endearing laughter will live in our hearts forever.
Funeral Monday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd. Billerica at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa Church at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 1-3 p.m. Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
