Obituary for John T. Glavin
Billerica – John T. Glavin Sr. – Age 89, beloved husband of Betty Ann (Leavitt) Glavin passed away Wednesday at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington surrounded by his loving family. John and Betty enjoyed 67 years of marriage.
He was born in Somerville, November 21, 1927, a son of the late Thomas J. and Bridget “Barbara” T. (Galway) Glavine and lived in Billerica all of his life. Mr. Glavin proudly served in the U.S. Army during WW II.
He was the co-founder of the Glavin Construction Company in Billerica, having established the company in 1952. Mr. Glavin was a former member and chairman of the Billerica School Committee. He was also a member of the permanent school building committee, overseeing the construction of numerous school buildings throughout Billerica. In addition, he was a long serving Town Meeting member. Mr. Glavin was one of the founding members of Billerica Little League. He is a member of the Billerica Memorial High School Sports Hall of Fame. In his retirement, Mr. Glavin continued to support Billerica sports by managing the construction of numerous athletic facilities in town. He was a life-long fan and benefactor of all Billerica Athletics. He took particular joy in following his children, grandchildren and great-grand children’s participation in athletics. Mr. Glavin’s hobbies included; gardening, cross-word puzzles, reading, and hosting endless gatherings for friends and family.
Besides his wife, Mr. Glavin is survived by his daughter, Barbara Abelli and her husband Richard of Billerica; his sons, John Glavin Jr. and his wife Michelle, Kevin Glavin and his partner Sandra Sullivan, Brian Glavin and his wife Cathy of Billerica, Richard Glavin and his wife Jeanne of Nashua, NH and Robert Glavin and his partner Cheryl Pratt of Ipswich; He is also the father of the late Kathleen Higgins (Glavin); Father in law of Joseph Higgins of Billerica, Joyce Glavin of Lowell, and the late Lorna Glavin. Brother of Frederick Glavine of Billerica. Brother of the late William, Joseph, Gregory and James Glavine, Francis Glavin and Margaret Nuttall. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Glavin Sr. Funeral Saturday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa Church at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Friday from 3-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kathy Higgins Scholarship Fund, Enterprise Bank, 223 Boston Rd., Billerica, MA 01862, Attn.
