Obituary for John L. McNamara
John L. McNamara, age 79, beloved husband of Beverly G. (Pratt) McNamara died Monday, June 6 at Care one in Wilmington after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Somerville, May 29, 1943, a son of the late John L. McNamara and Mary A. (Villa) McNamara and lived in Somerville before moving to Billerica 24 years ago.
John affectionately called “Johnny Mac” or “Johnny Cakes” was employed as a driver for Local 25 most recently being a driver on the set of multiple movies and TV shows filmed in the New England area. He worked on the movie sets of the Jaws, Pet Sematary, Witches of Eastwick and the TV series, Spenser for Hire. He had the privilege to be the driver for Cher, Michelle Pfeiffer and Susan Sarandon while filming.
Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, Linda Costa and her husband Paul of Medford, Mary Neal and her husband Peter of Andover and Robin Vargas and her husband Carlos of Woburn; one son, John McNamara and his wife Lisa of Marshfield; one brother, Jeremiah McNamara of NY; one sister Carol Malatesta of Wilmington as well as 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Barbara Ellis of Cambridge.
A Memorial Visitation will be held Saturday, June 25 at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 12 - 2 p.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. All other services will be held privately and at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assn. www.alz.org
