
Obituary for John F. "Jack" McCarthy
BILLERICA – John F. “Jack” McCarthy, age 74, beloved husband of Helen (McDonough) McCarthy died Thursday at their home with his family by his side after a period of declining health.
He was born in Medford, March 10, 1947 a son of the late John J. and Frances (Coughlin) McCarthy and has been a Billerica resident since 1983.
Jack proudly served his country in the US Army for 20 years with service during the Vietnam War retiring with the rank of CW3. Among his awards are the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal as well as several others.
Following his retirement from the Army he went to his second career with Raytheon serving as a Security Manager for 27 years.
Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter, Mary-Jane Summers and her husband Daniel of Hopedale; two sons, Kevin McCarthy and his wife Lee An of Hudson, NH and Sean McCarthy and his wife Sherry of Dennis; eight grandchildren, Cameron, Devlin, Skylar, Brenna, Dylan, Keala, Abigail and Cylas; his siblings, Joanne and Dennis Hourihan, Peggy and Joseph Solano, Stephen McCarthy, Rita Kathleen and Roland Sullivan and Denise and Michael Montalto; his sister-in-law Kathleen Rocheleau as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was the brother of the late David McCarthy.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday at the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 4 – 7 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St. Winchendon, MA at 10 a.m. Please arrive at the cemetery no later than 9:45 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Per current State guidelines face coverings will be required. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beth Israel Health at Home, www.bilh.org or to the DAV at www.dav.org
