Janice A. Mathias – age 85, wife of the late Kurt E. Mathias died peacefully Tuesday, July 7 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Winthrop, June 6, 1941 a daughter of the late John and Agatha (Conti) Savani and was raised in Arlington before living in Billerica for 40 years and has lived in N. Chelmsford for the past six years.
During Janice and Kurt's 34 loving years of marriage, they found they shared a passion for dancing. Every weekend you could find them cutting a rug wherever there was music. They worked together beautifying their home, Kurt managing the yard, and Janice planting her gorgeous flowerbeds.
Janice used her skill in the kitchen to bring everyone together. Her turkey casserole, cappelettis, and cherry cheesecake will be sorely missed, but the traditions of cooking and baking that she instilled in her children and grandchildren will serve to pass on her skills.
Affectionately called the "Baby whisperer", Janice had an exceptional talent with children. Her maternal embrace and gentle voice served to soothe the many babies who were fortunate enough to pass through her arms.
Janice was devoted to the church and served as a CCD teacher for over 20 years. She was a member of the Redhatters of Billerica and the President of the Women's Club of St, Mary's. Janice was employed as an Executive Secretary at the N.E. Deaconess Hospital in Concord for over 25 years.
Janice was our angel here on Earth, and now in heaven has the wings she deserves.
She is survived by her daughters, Sheila Servizio and her husband Stephen of Billerica, and Janessa Bielawski of N. Chelmsford. She is also survived by her sister, Pauline Flemmings and her husband Gary of Phippsburg, ME; her stepson Peter Mathias of Lawrence, MA; her stepdaughter Ursula Cargill and her husband Shane of Waco, TX; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Tony, Jeffery and Mark Roberts and Angela Roberts and mother-in-law of the late Paul Bielawski.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday at St. Agnes Church, 22 Medford St., Arlington at 10 a.m. Her burial will take place at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Arlington. Memorial contributions may be made in Janice’s name to:
