Obituary for James J. Battcock
BILLERICA – James J. “Jimmy” Battcock, age 71, died Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center with his family by his side.
He was born in Lowell, October 24, 1943 a son of the late James M. and M. Theresa (MacDonald) Battcock and was a lifelong Billerica resident.
Mr. Battcock attended Billerica Schools and joined the Army in 1964 serving in Vietnam during the war. Upon his return he worked for the CIA; was a Billerica Firefighter; worked for the United States Post Office before joining the Massachusetts State Police. He served for 21 years retiring as a Lieutenant. He was awarded the Trooper of the Year award (1978-1979); recipient of the Heimlich Award by Dr. Heimlich himself accumulating numerous other award and accolades throughout his career.
He was a graduate of Northeastern University with a Bachelor Degree in Political Science and earned his Masters in Education from Boston University.
Mr. Battcock is survived by his siblings, Joanne E. Keeler, Mary M. Kinsman and her husband Gordon, Stephen Battcock and his wife Christine all of Billerica, Teresa Harrington and her husband Richard of Lowell; one sister-in-law Edna Battcock of Billerica; he was the brother of the late Michael M. Battcock and brother-in-law of the late Robert Keeler.
Further survived by loving niece Christine M. Grunes “Nurse Cratchet” who was especially supportive during Mr. Battcock’s sickness as well as other numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and good friend Jimmy Perry and many other friends.

Funeral Tuesday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd, Billerica at 10 a.m. A Graveside Service will be held at St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4 – 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
