James E. Oakley, age 79, beloved husband of Kathleen M. (O’Mahoney) Oakley died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025 at the Eliot Center for Health and Rehab in Natick after a period of declining health.
He was born in Wilkinsburg, PA Dec. 14, 1945 a son of the late John M. Dinkle and Phyllis L. (Maroney) Oakley and lived most of his life in Largo, FL before moving to Billerica 5 years ago.
Jim proudly served in the US Navy with the Seabees during the Vietnam Era attaining the rank of BUL3, Builder 3rd Class also known as Petty Officer Third Class, then went on a long career as a woodworker and most recently appliance repair.
During his time in Florida he was a member of the Elks, VFW and DAV.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children, James Stock and his wife Daphne of NC, Jamie Oakley of FL, Timothy Perry and his wife Carol of Billerica, Keri Gladney and her husband Ronald of FL and Richard Ploof of NJ; his siblings, Jerri Waller of FL, John Oakley III of FL; John Dinkel of PA, Gwenn Dinkel Cable of PA, Janice Miller of PA and Kevin Dinkel of PA; loving stepmother to James and Janice Wable of PA; his grandchildren, Ariana Dahlstrom of FL, Casey Bradford of FL, Bryan Ploof and his wife Courtney of NH, Kallie Ploof of Boston, Timothy Hagen of Southboro, Nicole Hagen, Suad Hagen, Dylan Hagen, Joshua Hagen all of Billerica and Kimberly and Sarah Stock both of NC as well as several great grandchildren. He was the father of the late John Oakley.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 20, 2025 at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 12 – 1:30 followed by a Graveside Service with Military Honors at the Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local animal rescue or to benefit a Veterans group of your choice.
