Obituary for James A Higgins
BILLERICA – James A. Higgins, age 86, beloved husband of the late Elinor F. (Lockhart) (Foley) Higgins died Wednesday at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington.
He was born in Somerville, June 21, 1929 a son of the late Joseph and Celia (Kelliher) (Foley) Higgins and was a lifelong Billerica Resident.
Mr. Higgins served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a Meat Cutter for First National Supermarkets now Stop and Shop for 50 years.
He was a member of the American Legion, an avid animal lover and he was also a member of the National Wildlife Federation.
He is survived by two sons, John Foley and his wife Coleen of Cumberland, RI and James Foley of Lowell; two daughters, Kathy Matheson and her husband Bill and Patty Higgins all of Billerica; one brother Joseph Higgins of Billerica; two sisters, Ann Condon of Burlington and Marion Cutler of La Habra, CA as well as five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Frank, John, Elizabeth and Ruth Higgins.

Funeral Tuesday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Mary’s Church, Billerica at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 3 – 7 p.m. Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
