Obituary for Irene M. Pietrasik
Irene M. (Struzik) Pietrasik, 91, of Billerica, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Lahey Hospital in Burlington surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of the late Jan Pietrasik and daughter of Walter and Genevieve (Pienczykowski) Struzik. Devoted mother of John Pietrasik and his wife, Kathleen, of Bedford and Frank Pietrasik and his wife, Jo-Ann, of Abington. Loving grandmother of Michael, Timothy, Julie, Emily and Dylan Pietrasik, Lauren Bates, Lindsey Moriarty and three great-grandchildren. Born and raised in South Boston, she lived in Billerica for over 40 years, and the past 4 years at Atria Longmeadow in Burlington. Sister of the late Robert Struzik and Mary Weber. Late 25-year employee of Jordan Marsh (now Macy’s) Credit Department of Boston and Auburndale.
Irene was a talented painter, expert knitter, had a green thumb and always seemed to win at Bingo. She met the love of her life, Jan, at the Polish Club in South Boston in the early 1950s and they shared 30 years of marriage before he passed away in 1983. She doted on her 7 grandchildren and they have fond memories of playing board games with her for hours on end, hearing her stories of both her early life and that of their Dads, and her sharing the family recipes for all things Polish. She was thrilled with the arrival of her third great-grandchild just two weeks ago.
Although recently slowed by Parkinson’s disease, she enjoyed her life at Atria with a host of new friends and wonderful caregivers. As an avid Red Sox fan, Irene loved watching them play and reveled in their latest World Series Championship.
Funeral Friday from the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Road, Billerica at 8am. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Theresa Church, 466 Boston Road (Rte 3A), Billerica at 9am. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4-8pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation at www.parkinson.org. Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
