Obituary for Irene M. Murphy
Billerica – Irene M. Murphy – Age 74, passed away Sunday at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington surrounded by her adoring family.
She was born in East Boston, July 17, 1940, a daughter of the late George and Magdalen (Southwell) Parsons and lived in Everett before moving to Billerica 50 years ago.
Irene was employed as a nurse at the former St. John’s Hospital in Lowell where she provided compassionate care for 20 years prior to her retirement. She loved gardening and tending to her flower buckets, but her real passion was her grandchildren. She enjoyed babysitting every one of them; she especially enjoyed being with them at the beach. She was an avid Boston sports fan and loved watching tennis. She was best known for her sense of humor and her facial expressions often said it all.
Besides her husband, Irene is survived by her sons, Richard Murphy and his wife Jenn of Marlborough and Thomas Murphy and his wife Kerry of Pepperell; her daughters, Michelle Lavery and her husband Tom of Billerica and Julie Florio and her husband David also of Billerica; her brother, Albert Parsons of NC; her sisters, Margie Debenedetto and Shirley Parsons of Everett and Linda Pelletier of Salisbury; her grandchildren, Aiden Murphy, Courtney Gallant and her husband Nicholas, Kelly, Dylan and Brianna Lavery, Zachary, Jillian and Lucas Florio, Kathryn, Sara and Allison Murphy.
