Obituary for Henry "Clyde" Harrison

Henry “Clyde” Harrison - a veteran of World War II and longtime resident of Billerica, passed away on September 21, 2023 surrounded by family. Clyde, as he was known to many in the area, was born in Somerville on March 4, 1925 as the son of the late Joseph and Margret (Mahoney) Harrison, and lived in Billerica since 1956. Clyde enlisted in the Navy on 7 September 1943 as a Communications specialist/Cryptologist. While in the Navy, Clyde participated in the brass section of the Navy Band where he played the trombone. His naval career culminated on the beaches of France where he landed on Omaha beach during the early morning hours of 6 June 1944 as part of operation Overlord.


After the war, Clyde returned home to Somerville, married Margaret Kelly on September 4, 1950 an began working for Howard C. Obrien Corporation in Brighton Mass which he later owned and operated.


The highlight of his life was the 15 plus years he spent in “Bull Creek” Florida as a seasonal Wildlife Management Fish and Game volunteer where he was known for his 4 AM, 20 mile walks through the Florida wilderness and his zest for managing nature for all to enjoy.


Clyde was a lifetime member of the Concord Rod and Club and a Billerica Auxiliary Police Officer for many years.

Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Margret, his parents, siblings and two great grandchildren Kelly and Brad. He is survived by his sons, Paul Harrison and his wife Carol of Manchester, NH, and Wayne Harrison and his wife Melissa of Jacksonville, FL and his daughters Janet Hernon of Billerica, and Patricia Young and her husband William of Alton Bay, NH. He is also survived by his six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.


Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2023 from 11:00 – 12:30 p.m. at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica. A Graveside Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Fox Hill Cemetery, 130 Andover Rd., Billerica.
