Helen M. Collier – Age 88, beloved wife of Arthur R. Collier died peacefully Tuesday, December 5 at the Life Care Center of Merrimack Valley in N. Billerica.
She was born in Boston, February 22, 1935, a daughter of the late John and Julia (Claire) Pine and moved to Billerica in 1956.
Helen was a former member of St. Theresa Women’s Club. She loved her work as a Eucharistic minister, bringing communion to people in hospitals and confined to their homes.
She took great pleasure in caring for, and playing with, her grandchildren. There was always time for another game of Monopoly.
Helen immensely enjoyed trips with her husband in their RV, especially visits to Newfoundland, where they both found welcoming and loving family and friends. She was an outstanding cook; recipes for some of her specialties (lasagna, banana bread) continue to be treasured by her family. Reading was one of her favorite activities. She often said that she read every word in the Boston Globe, from the first page to the last.
Besides her husband, Helen is survived by her daughter, Karen Cross of Lynn; her sons, Arthur Collier Jr. of Charlottesville, VA, Ronald Collier of Harrison, ME and Eric Collier of Dracut and her brother, Robert Pine of Arlington. She was also blessed to have many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday, December 10 at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 1-4 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 10 a.m. Her burial will take place at the Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
