Helen Joan (Ryan) Dyer, age 94, wife of the late William H. Dyer, died Sunday May 3, at Lowell General Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Canada, December 2, 1931 a daughter of the late Michael and Ella (MacDonald) Ryan and has been Billerica resident since 1966.
Joan worked for many years in customer service at O’Connor Hardware in Billerica where customers regularly heard her voice over the speakers paging various departments.
She was an active member of St. Theresa Church in Billerica and was member of the Women’s Club as well as being an avid bingo player.
Joan is survived by two sons, William H. Dyer Jr. of Wilmington and Kenneth M. Dyer of Billerica; one granddaughter Mary Alice Shea and her husband Ryan; her beloved great-grandson Teddy Shea as well as her dear friends Cheryl Gendreau and Marilyn Cyr. She was the beloved mother of the late Mary Dyer who died in 2024 and sister of the late Anna MacDonald and Betty Ryan.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 8 at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd. Billerica at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
