Obituary for Harry Martell Jr.
Harry Martell Jr. – Age 81, beloved husband of Louise (Sponagle) Martell died Saturday surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Medford, June 30, 1930, the son of the late Harry Martell Sr. and Grace (McNamara) Martell and lived in Billerica for most of his life. Mr. Martell served in the Army during the Korean War as a Paratrooper. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He was employed for the Billerica Fire Department for 29 years and retired as the Chief in 1984. He was a member of the Community Congregational Church, the Thomas Talbot Masonic Lodge, the Billerica Lodge of Elks and the VFW Solomon Post. Besides his wife, Mr. Martell is survived by his sons, Harry Martell III of Stoneham, Richard Martell and his wife Laurie, John Martell and his wife Christine and James Martell and his wife Cathleen of Billerica; his daughters, Brenda LeBlanc and her husband Dan of Billerica and Beverly Catanzaro and her husband Christopher of Pelham, NH; his brothers, Kenneth and Frederick Martell of NH, William Martell of Plum Island and Alan Martell of FL; his sisters, Grace Calileo and Barbara Young of NH, Joan Lesnett, Dorothy Barry and Marilyn Futch of FL. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Mr. Martell was the brother of the late Ronald Martell and Rosalie Plagg. MARTELL – Of Billerica, Feb. 18, Harry Martell Jr. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday at the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at the Community Congregational Church, 803 Boston Rd., Billerica at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas, 66675-8516. Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
