Obituary for Gloria M. Brisendine
BILLERICA – Gloria M. (Slowe) Brisendine, age 84, died Monday at the Merrimack Valley Hospice house in Haverhill with her family by her side.
She was born in Boston, a daughter of the late Thomas and Florence (Steele) Slowe and lived in South Boston before moving to Billerica in 1965.
Mrs. Brisendine retired from Christianson Bus Company in Billerica after driving special needs children to school for over 40 years. She had also worked as a barmaid locally. She was an active member of the VFW Solomon Post, Ladies Auxiliary for many years.
She is survived by her children, George J. Brisendine Jr. and his wife Katherine of Laconia, NH, Linda A. Binette and her husband Roland of Dover, NH and Thomas L. Brisendine of Salem, NH; her brothers and sister, Anthony Slowe and his wife Dorothy of Roslindale, John Slowe and his wife Gloria of CA, and Eileen Bolstad and her husband William of ME; her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, sisters-in law Betty and Joanne Slowe, many nieces, nephews and friends, as well as her former husband George L. Brisendine. She was predeceased by her longtime companion Richard Mackey, siblings Thomas, Robert, Joseph and Roderick Slowe and Florence Tracy, granddaughter Jennifer, and daughters-in-law Stephanie Brisendine and Lynne Stygles.
Mrs. Brisendine enjoyed travel visiting her beloved Ireland and Hawaii several times. She travelled around the country planning and hosting reunions for the U.S.S. McGowan with Mr. Mackey. In her younger days she loved to dance, was a champion dart player, and a fan of poker, and she loved a good joke. She was a caring friend and neighbor to many. She valued love and family above all. She will be dearly missed.

A Memorial Visitation will be held Thursday at the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 4 – 7 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday at St. Andrew’s Church, 35 Talbot Ave., Billerica at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
