Obituary for Glendon A. Grover
Glendon Albert Grover - Age 80, husband of Kathleen A. (McCarthy) Grover died Monday at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington. He was born in Somerville, the eldest of the four children of June (Webber) Grover and Albert Grover.
Upon his graduation, Mr. Grover enlisted in the Navy, serving during the Korean War. In August of 1953, a year after he was discharged, he met Kathleen McCarthy and the following July 31st they were married at St. Clement's Church in Somerville and then moved to Billerica.
He retired from Houghton Mifflin where in addition to his position as Supervisor of Returns, he served for 9 years on the Houghton Mifflin Employees Credit Union Board. An avid history buff, he was also a member of The Civil War Round Table of Greater Boston.
Mr. Grover joined the Knights of Columbus in 1966. While an officer in Holy Name, he was elected Grand Knight of Father Harold M. Wren Council 3963. Joining the Fourth Degree in 1971, he went through the chairs and was elected Faithful Navigator in 1977. He also served for ten years as editor of The Admiral, the Saint Pius X newsletter. In 1978, he was asked by PSD, FM Joseph Arena to be part of his installation team, a position he continued in with each ensuing Master. In 1980, he was appointed District Deputy by PSD Newman Flanagan and reappointed by PSD, FM Kenneth C. Pearson. He also served as State Retention Chairman and State Recruitment Chairman.
He was a communicant of Saint Theresa Church and along with his wife they served as Eucharistic Ministers, team couple for Marriage Prep, RCIA team members, and until very recently, Ministers of Hospitality.
For the last nine years, he was a much loved crossing guard for Billerica school children.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, Mr. Grover is survived by his son, Brian Grover of Billerica; his daughters, Kathleen Grover-Miller and her spouse Terri of Hampstead, NH, Patricia Grover and her fianc Robert Koval of Chelmsford and Erin Knight and her spouse David of Derry, NH; his sister, Marilyn Donnelly of Somerville; 3 grandchildren, Maddie Grover-Miller and Samantha and Meghan Knight. Mr. Grover was the brother of the late I. William Grover and Mildred "Chic" Jordan.

Funeral Thursday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 8 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa Church at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Theresa Church, One Grace Ave., Billerica, MA 01821 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105. Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
