Obituary for Gladys "Marlene" Roche
BILLERICA – Gladys “Marlene” (Muir) Roche, beloved wife of the late William J. Roche passed away peacefully Tuesday at her home.

She was born in Fitchburg, April 8, 1922 a daughter of the late Harold and Florence (Kennedy) Muir and lived in Cambridge before moving to Billerica in 1963.

Mrs. Roche was a graduate of Leominster High School class of 1940 and worked at Liberty Mutual in Leominster before joining the US Navy as a WAVE during WW II which she served proudly from April of 1943 until February of 1946.
After her enlistment ended she attended the Barbizon School of Modeling in New York and worked as a model. She later enrolled in Boston University earning her Bachelor of Arts Degree and most recently was a teacher for the Billerica Public Schools.

Mrs. Roche was an active member of St. Theresa Parish where she taught CCD, was a member of the Woman’s Sodality. She was the past president and editor of the MA WAVES unit 17 (Old Ironsides) and enjoyed reading, movies oil painting traveling and especially spending time with her children.

She is survived by three sons, Michael Roche of Billerica, James Roche of North Billerica and Paul Roche and his companion Peggy Bradford of Billerica; one daughter, Christine Roche-Helmes and her husband Edward C. Helmes Jr. of Chelmsford; two brothers, Alfred Muir of CA and Herbert Muir of Worcester as well as her daughter-in-law Debbie Roche and many nieces an nephews. She was the sister of the late Pearl Wilson, Evelyn Suprenant and Harold J. Muir.

ROCHE – Of Billerica, formerly of Billerica, Feb. 9, Gladys “Marlene” Roche. Visiting hours will be held Sunday at the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 1 – 5 p.m. followed by a funeral Monday from the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa Church, Billerica at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Theresa Church, One Grace Ave., Billerica, MA 01821 or to the VFW, Solomon Post, 12 Phiney St., N. Billerica, MA 01862. Burial in St. Leo Cemetery, Leominster.
