Obituary for George T. Downs
George Thomas Downs, age 75, beloved husband of Donna M. (Puleo) Downs, died Wednesday July 13 at Winchester Hospital with his family by his side after a brief illness.
He was born in Boston, September 25, 1946 a son of the late George T. and Helen M. (McIsaac) Downs and lived in Malden before moving to Billerica in 1974.
George was employed by the former SS Pierce now US Foods, for a 44 year career initially as a truck driver, but later transitioned to a diesel mechanic. George was a train and trolley enthusiast and was a long-standing member at the Seacoast Trolley Museum in Maine. An incredibly charitable man and animal lover, George donated to many organizations, most notably the MSPCA. However, what he enjoyed most in life was spending time with his family and friends.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Kimberly Dillon and her partner Kevin McGrath of Amesbury, Tom Downs and his wife Karen of Merrimack, NH and Eric Downs and his fiancée Stacie Hamner of Amesbury, his sister Linda Wareham of Tewksbury. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, Nicole, Torri, Jill, Patrick, Ashley, Matthew, Taylor, Jenna, Tommy, Kevin, Alyssa and Mabel along with 9 great-grandchildren Demes, Gracie, Robbie, Lexi, Liam, MacKenzie, Lucia, Finn and Alivia and many friends. He was the brother of the late Richard Downs.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 1 – 4 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish in St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 10 .m. Burial to follow at Tewksbury Cemetery, 172 East St., Tewksbury. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the MSPCA
