Elizabeth (McCarty) (Dolan) Grimes – age 99 wife of the late Thomas
J. Dolan and the late James F. Grimes died peacefully on Monday, September 30th
at the Brightview Concord River in Billerica.
She was born in Boston December 28th, 1924, daughter of the late Charles
J. and Margaret A. (Burke) McCarty and was raised in Brookline, lived in Watertown,
before ultimately settling in Arlington for fifty years. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles J. McCarty Jr. and her life-long friend Jeanne Graham.
She graduated from Notre Dame Academy Boston (1942) and received a
B.A. degree in Mathematics with a minor in Physics from Emmanuel College (1946). Her record at Emmanuel won her a job in the semiconductor laboratory of MIT Professor Arthur von Hippel an honor given each year to a leading graduate in math or science.
Elizabeth worked for the Division of Employment Security as a Claims
Adjuster prior to her retirement. She was a long-term Eucharistic Minister at St. James
and St. Camillus churches and volunteered at Mount Auburn Hospital bringing
Communion to patients.
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Micalizzi and her husband, Mark,
of Billerica and Mary Connell and her husband Jack, of Billerica; and her sons,
Thomas Dolan, Jr. and his wife, Nannette, of Stoneham, Charles Dolan and his wife,
Kim, of Burlington, and Peter Dolan, and his wife, Sheree, of Medfield. She is also
survived by her 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 9th at the Sweeney Memorial
Funeral Home, 66 Concord Road, Billerica from 10:30 to11:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be
held at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Road,
Billerica at noon. Memorial contributions may be made to the FRAXA Research
Foundation (www.fraxa.org).
