Obituary for Elias Michael Tsougranis
Billerica – Elias Michael Tsougranis, 95, of Billerica MA, died peacefully Monday evening, June 9th, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Kalymnos Greece, son of the late Rev. Michael Elias Tsougranis and Presbytera Sevasti Varka. A WWII veteran and active Rotary member. After completing his post graduate studies at Columbia University he led a very distinguished career as a radio broadcaster and commentator for various organizations including the United Nations, 20th Century Fox, Voice of America and the “News of the Day”. Actively promoted relations between the United States and Greece and for his efforts the US government and Congress passed a private bill granting him permanent residency in the United States. Lastly he was the District Executive Director of Berlitz School of Languages. Elias is survived by his loving wife Celine Tsougranis, his three children, Michael and his wife Paula Tsougranis of Londonderry NH, Stella and her husband Michael Billiris of Billerica MA , Anthony Tsougranis and his wife Annie Sinakou of Springfield VA; as well as 5 grandchildren, Nikki ,Alexa ,Irini, Elias and Michael. Family and friends may call at the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica Friday from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday in the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Fr. John Sarantos Way (Clark St.), Lowell at 10 a.m. Burial in Westlawn II Cemetery, Lowell.
