Obituary for Eileen S. Flaherty
Eileen S. Flaherty – Age 93, wife of the late William H. Flaherty Jr. died Thursday of
complications of COVID-19 at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington

She was born in Woburn, January 31, 1927, the youngest daughter of the late Richard J. and Susan A. (McHugh) Spencer and was raised in Woburn before moving to Billerica 47 years ago.

She was a graduate of Woburn High School class of 1944 attended Simmons College and graduated from Chamberlayne Junior College in Boston. Before her marriage she was a millinery buyer for Grover Cronin’s in Waltham and for Filene’s in Boston.

She was a dedicated volunteer at Choate Memorial Hospital in Woburn, a member of the Billerica Garden Club and a board member of Billerica’s Public Library Board. She was honored in September 2019 as the Grand Marshall of Billerica’s Yankee Doodle Homecoming Parade.

Eileen was an daily communicant of St. Theresa Church in Billerica, She was an avid golfer and the only member of the Flaherty family who achieved a hole in one.
She is survived by her sons, William H. Flaherty III and his wife Elsie of Winchester and
Richard Flaherty and his wife Mary of Saratoga Springs, NY; her daughters, Marcia Smith and her husband George of Washington, D.C. and Andrea Cosentino and her husband Frank of Wakefield. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A private graveside service was offered by Fr. Paul Aveni of the Catholic Collaborative of Billerica at the Calvary Cemetery in Winchester. Memorial contributions may be made to the Billerica Public Library Foundation Inc., 15 Concord Rd. Billerica, MA 01821.
