Obituary for Dr. Lorraine D. 'Lorri' Smith
CHELMSFORD - Dr. Lorraine D. "Lorri" (Diaz) Smith wife of the late David C. Smith who died in August passed away Saturday at their home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Lowell, January 25, 1952 daughter of Matilda (Tartaglia) Diaz and the late Anthony "Duke" Diaz Jr. who died December 5th and lived in Billerica before moving to Chelmsford 26 years ago.
Dr. Smith graduated as the Valedictorian of Billerica Memorial High School class of 1970 and was a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, ME where she was a member of the Merrimanders Acapella group.
She was a Social Studies teacher at the Marshall Middle School in Billerica for 10 years, taught piano, was the author of several children's books, was the lead singer for the Sounds of LA and was a former miss VFW.
Besides her mother she is survived by two brothers, Stephen Diaz and his wife Dianne of Billerica and Anthony "Duke" Diaz III and his wife Susan of CT as well as several nieces and nephews.
SMITH - Of Chelmsford, formerly of Billerica, Dec. 18, Dr. Lorraine D. "Lorri" (Diaz) Smith. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at St. Theresa Church, Billerica at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. It being her request there will be no visiting hours. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
