Dorothy T. (Cregg) Sears – age 87 of Billerica died peacefully Friday, July 18 at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington.
She was born in Lowell, October 3, 1937, a daughter of the late James E. and Helen J. (Newell) Cregg and was raised in Lowell and moved to Billerica at the age of 20.
Dorothy was employed as a Store Clerk having worked at Marshall’s in Bedford for over 15 years. Dorothy’s legacy lives on through the love she poured into her family. She took great pride in raising her children and grandchildren as well as children in the neighborhood. Her spirit continues to shine through them. Her warmth, kindness, and devotion to family will never be forgotten.
Dorothy is survived by a son John J. Sears and his wife Kathleen of Billerica, a daughter, Colleen and her husband Gregg Madden of Derry, NH. Dorothy had 3 grandchildren, Ryan Sears and his wife Kim of Lowell, Laura Shanahan and her husband Christopher of Billerica, and Kyle Madden of New Hampshire, as well as 7 great grandchildren. Dorothy was one of 13 children. Dorothy has two remaining sisters Donna Cregg Morris, of Dracut and Charlotte and her husband Jack Spinney of Dracut; three brothers Frank Cregg of Nashua, Eugene Cregg of Dracut, and John Cregg and his wife Karen of Pelham, NH; many sisters and brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, July 23 at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. A graveside service will be held at the St. Patrick Cemetery, 1251 Gorham St., Lowell at 12:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.com
