Obituary for Dorothy J. Torpey
Dorothy J. Torpey—Age 93, beloved wife of the late William J. Torpey Jr. died Sunday, at High Pointe Hospice surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Torpey was born in Boston, October 24, 1924, a daughter of the late Harold and Marjorie (Rumrill) Crafts, and lived in both South Boston and Holbrook until moving to Billerica in 1961.
She was a former member of the Billerica Council on Aging, and enjoyed reading, playing Words With Friends on her Kindle, and games of any kind, especially Chicken Foot. Mrs. Torpey also enjoyed going on trips to Ayers Lake with her sister and Lake Winnipesaukee with her family where she enjoyed swimming. She was especially proud of getting her license at age 67 and holding it for 20 years, as driving was something she was truly fond of.
She is survived by her ten children, William Torpey and his wife Linda of Salem, NH, Robert Torpey and his wife Maureen of Hudson, NH, Beverley Courtney and her husband Edward of New Ipswich, NH, Maureen Degan and her husband Frank of Billerica, Michael Torpey and his wife Denise of Dunstable, Betty Buckley and her husband Danny of Hudson, NH, Kevin Torpey and Kathryn Berthraume of Saco, ME, Karen Polk and her husband Ralph of Bangor, ME, David Torpey and his wife Susan of Billerica and Winnie Callahan and her husband Richard of Bedford; her daughter in law Sheryl Torpey of Billerica; her brothers, Richard Crafts of FL and Louis Crafts of Lynnfield and her sister Margie Frankina of Brockton. She is also survived by 35 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Torpey was the mother of the late Dorothy Lilly and Richard Torpey; sister of the late Harold, Charles and Robert Crafts, and loving grandmother of the late Irene Courtney.
TORPEY—Of Billerica, Dec. 31, Dorothy J. Torpey, Funeral Thursday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at St. Theresa Church, Billerica at 10:30 a.m. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 3-7 P.M. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to High Pointe Hospice House, 360 North Ave, Haverhill, MA 01830.
