Donald J. Murphy, age 77, beloved husband of Kathleen (Collins) Murphy died Sunday, December 15, at Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach, FL after a period of declining health.
He was born in Boston, February 26, 1947, son of the late James and Eleanor (Quigley) Murphy and grew up in Roslindale before moving to Billerica for 35 years and then retiring with his wife to Delray Beach, FL 8 years ago.
Donald was employed in the finance and accounting industry, most recently with Zwicker and Associates in Andover. He was a longtime member of the Billerica and Delray Beach Lodge of Elks, devoted football coach and game announcer for the Billerica Pop Warner League. He was also a fanatic Boston sports fan, especially his Red Sox and will always be remembered singing Frank Sinatra songs wherever he went.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter Kerry Murphy and her husband Adam Smyth of Rye, NY; his son Kevin Murphy and his wife Nicole of Fall River; his sister, Maureen McMahon and her husband Ed of Franklin, as well as his five grandchildren; Eamonn, Eleanor, Maeve, William and Oliver who he loved deeply. He is also survived by his sisters in law Kristine Collins and Karen Leonard and many nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Hannah Murphy and brother of the late James Murphy.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday December 19th at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Road, Billerica from 4 – 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday December 20th at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Andrew Church, 45 Talbot Avenue, Billerica at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
