It is with profound sadness that we announce that Dianne C. (Smith) Rollins, age 80, beloved wife of 57 years of Joseph M. Rollins died Tuesday, Nov 28, at Massachusetts General Hospital after an outpatient cardiac imaging procedure.
She was born in Somerville, July 4, 1943 a daughter of the late John and Evelyn (Tobin) Smith and grew up in Woburn before moving to Billerica to raise her family and finally retiring to Salisbury Beach, followed by Hampton Beach and Naples, FL. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends in each of these locations as well as travelling to many different states and countries.
Dianne was employed as a teacher for Pope John Paul II Elementary School in Dorchester as well as the Billerica School Dept. and most recently for Arlington Catholic. She was a member of the Congregation of Sisters of St. Joseph and CSJ Associates and was involved with the CYO and Marriage Preparation at the former St. Mary’s Church in Billerica.
Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, Allison Loftin and her husband Stephen of Billerica and Melissa Jordan of Clinton; three sons, Greg Rollins and his wife Kerry of Tyngsboro, Joseph “Jay” Rollins of Goshen, KY and Shawn Rollins and his wife Lena of North Scituate, RI as well as her 12 beloved grandchildren, Hailey, Jeremy, Dylan, Jake, Emily, Justin, Blake, Blair, Abby, Olivia, James and Liam. She was the grandmother of the late Nate Rollins and sister of the late Robert and John Smith.
Dianne was overjoyed by the presence and love of each child and grandchild. She was more than just a parent and grandparent; she was a friend, mentor and confidant to many. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and unwavering support that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Visiting hours will be held Monday, Dec. 4, at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 4 – 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Dec., 5 at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Andrew’s Church 45 Talbot Ave., N. Billerica at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. All other services will be held privately and at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org
