Diane Katherine (Salenga) Tamis, age 84, beloved wife of the late Peter J. Tamis to whom she was married for over 50 years, passed away Friday at her home with her family by her side after an eight year battle with breast cancer.
She was born in Cambridge, September 30, 1941 a daughter of the late Joseph and Alexandra (Struzik) Salenga and lived in Arlington before moving to Billerica in 1964.
Although Diane worked outside the home in her younger years her true career began when she became a mother. Nothing was more important to her than spending time with her husband, children and eventually her grandchildren.
Diane enjoyed cooking Greek and Polish foods for her family and in her spare time she participated in the annual Greek Gala of Boston and enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, playing cards, games and doing crossword puzzles.
She is survived by one son, Dennis Tamis and his wife AnnMarie of Billerica; two daughters, Dawn Melendy and her husband Thomas of Billerica and Tanya Zemetres and her husband Chris of Tewksbury; two sisters, Christine Thompson of SC and Joan Sauri of Waltham as well as her beloved grandchildren, Tiffany, Trevor, Troy, Talia, Alexsay and C.J. She was the mother of the late Peter Tamis.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 9 – 10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
