Obituary for Daniel J. Martin
Daniel J. Martin died unexpectedly at his home in Palm Springs, CA on October 23, after suffering a painful battle with Guillain Barre's Syndrome. Throughout his adversity he loved life, his family and friends.

He was born in Methuen, MA on March 16, 1960, the son of Margaret (McSweeney) (Martin) DiPietro and the late Norman J. Martin. He attended Billerica schools through grade 8. In 1978, he graduated from Austin Prep and continued his education at Merrimack College. He was a member of both alumni associations and also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Dan was very active in his family's business; McSweeney's Liquors and was employed by Premium Beverage Company in sales for many years.

He next moved to California, first to San Francisco and eventually settled in Palm Springs , where he was employed at Spa Resort and Casino, where he was the happiest and most fulfilled. His co-workers were his west coast family.

Dan enjoyed traveling. He particularly enjoyed Italy, but his favorite vacation spot was Hawaii. He had planned to visit Australia in the near future. Each year he traveled home to spend quality time with his family and friends.

During his short life, Dan had a myriad of interests and accomplishments. He was a devoted son to his mother and step-father, a loving brother to his sister Maria and brother-in-law Dan. He was sensitive, caring, and full of love, compassion, and laughter.

Dan is survived by his mother, Margaret (McSweeney) (Martin) DiPietro, his sister Maria (Martin) Drinkwater, and her husband Daniel H. Drinkwater, his aunt Anita (Martin) Chabot, his aunt Ellen Manning and his step sister, Marisa (DiPietro) Stahl. Dan is survived by many cousins, friends and a large extended family especially Jon Bancroft of CA, whose kindness and compassion to Dan was so special. Chivas and Regal were Dan's West Highland Terriers whom he loved like children. Jon Bancroft cares for the terriers now at Dan's request.

He is predeceased by his father, Norman J. Martin, his maternal grandparents, Daniel and Katherine McSweeney and his step-father Anthony (Nino) DiPietro.

There will be no visiting hours, cremation took place in California. A Memorial Mass- a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday November 28th, at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa Church in Billerica, MA.
