Obituary for Daniel J. Hurley
Daniel J. Hurley
Loving Husband, Father, Step-father, Grandfather, Great-grandfather, Brother and Friend
BILLERICA – Daniel J. Hurley, age 79, beloved husband of Alice L. (Brookings) Hurley died Thursday at their home.
He was born in Boston, September 26, 1936 a son of the late Daniel and Alice (Wilkinson) Hurley and lived in Tewksbury and Lowell before moving to Billerica 36 years ago.
Danny and Alice shared 31 amazing years of marriage, as well as a close friendship for 36 years. Dan was a kind, gentle man who never said a bad word about anyone, even those who annoyed him. He was loved by all who knew him in his personal life and in the community.
After working as a Banbury Operator for GE Wire and Cable and Vulkor in Lowell, he became a "jack of all trades." Dan was a vehicle salesman for a few dealerships, owned a video store in Billerica for eight years, learned the landscaping business as he worked with Phelan Landscaping Design, worked as a security guard at Summer Village in Westford, and also drove for the Lynnway Auto Auction.
Dan could be found outside planting or weeding whenever the weather permitted, and he transformed the property at his home with beautiful arrays of assorted flower gardens, which were admired by all who drove or walked by. His legacy will be the plants and trees that will continue to bloom every season for many years to come.
He was active at the Billerica Senior Center, serving as Chairman of the Council on Aging Board was an avid gardener and a longtime member of St. Andrew’s Parish in North Billerica.
May he rest in peace knowing that he was dearly loved by dozens of people who knew him during his lifetime.
Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Kathleen McElroy and her husband Stephen of Billerica and Dannielle (Hurley) Ayotte of Lowell; two sons, Daniel Brian Hurley and his wife Debra of Tewksbury and James Hurley of Nashua; three step-daughters, Kathleen Hughes of CA, Cynthia Corriveau and her husband John of Tyngsboro and Mary Ellen Furtado and her husband Andrew of Dracut; two sisters, Sheila Nolas and her husband Steven of FL and Marlene Hurley-Marshall of Hudson, NY; one brother, Michael Hurley and his wife Marjorie of Lynnfield; fourteen grandchildren, Justin, Andrew Jr., Kevin, Brendan, Kimberly, Sean, Kayla, Matthew, Adam, Timothy, Rayven, Rylee, Cameron and Aiden as well as 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
