Obituary for Daniel J. Hayes

Daniel J. Hayes – Age 77, beloved husband of Olita L. (Leaitu) Hayes died peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 27 with his family at his side.


He was born in Cambridge, January 2, 1947, a son of the late F. Joseph and Rosalie M. (DeCock) Hayes and was raised in Cambridge and moved to Billerica 51 years ago.


Daniel proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War and was a recipient of three Purple Hearts, the Navy Cross and was a member of the Legion of Valor.


He was employed as a Member of the Massachusetts State Police having worked at the Capital Building for over 30 years before his retirement.


Besides his wife, Daniel is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Blais and her husband Adam of Lowell; his sons, Dominic Leaitu and his wife Amy of Bellevue, WA, Joseph Hayes of Lowell and Alan Hayes of Billerica; his sister, Kathleen Hayes and her husband, Daniel O’Shea of Cambridge and his two grandchildren, Leilani and Brianna. He was the father of the late Colleen Hayes.


A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, December 3 at St. Irene Church, 181 East St., Carlisle at 10 a.m. His burial with military honors will take place at the Fox Hill Cemetery in Billerica.
