Cynthia M. King, aged 59, a recent resident of Billerica, MA and the beloved wife of William F. King passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 20, 2025 at the Lowell General Hospital with her husband at her side, ending a twenty-five year-long battle with metastatic, stage 4, breast cancer with its many complications and indignities.
Cindy was born in Methuen, MA on July 11, 1965, to Elaine M. (Lambert) Holroyd of Port St. Lucie, FL and the late Wilfred Holroyd. She was raised in Nashua, NH and was the middle of three children, an older brother Daniel and a younger sister Candace.
In her early years, she was active in many school and community activities. One of the activities she was most proud of was being a part of the Spartan Drum and Bugle Corps of Nashua, NH – a community-based performing arts organization.
Cindy graduated from Nashua High School in 1984 with a special concentration of child care courses. Her goal was to pursue child development and work specifically with children with Special Needs. She attained a teaching certificate as a Para Professional and was endorsed as an Educational Assistant in the State of New Hampshire in July of 1984. Cindy worked briefly in this field where she was able to touch many children’s lives. Later on in her life she graduated from Southern New Hampshire University with an associate’s degree in business management and became the first in her family to obtain a college degree.
Throughout her adult years, Cindy was employed in various roles for different companies in payroll and accounting. For many years she was employed for Lockheed Martin as an Executive Assistant. Subsequent to that she worked for AST Security as an Executive Assistant. And along the way she took a part-time job at Bed, Bath & Beyond, where she met her best friend, Heidi who was her Matron of Honor when she married her husband Bill in the year of two weddings, 2020.
Cindy enjoyed living life, whether cooking or baking: making her brownies, tending her garden and her beautiful peonies, helping her cousin Jean with dance recitals at Studio of Performing Arts in Salem, NH, or watching her beloved Patriots play football – and win! Cindy had an infectious smile and lit up any room she entered. Her guilty pleasure was getting her nails done with Heidi and enjoying a burger at Stellio’s afterwards.
Of all the different parts of life, Cindy enjoyed travel and family. One of the best trips she took was a European vacation with Bill to Italy and Greece in 2018. Family was an important part of Cindy’s life. She was an amazing aunt to her wonderful nieces and nephews. And, she extended her love and devotion to all her cousin’s children.
On the personal side, Bill and Cindy from time to time would banter calling each other “husband” or “wife.” But there was no mistake about their love and devotion for one another. Cindy was Bill’s girl. And, she would tell many family members and friends that Bill doted on her.
Through the years of her cancer diagnosis, Cindy would rally her friends to be on the “Ribbons of Friendship” team as a part of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Nashua, NH. She fought cancer with optimism and bravery. Though being diagnosed with what for her was a fatal disease, she accepted the challenge and never had a “woe is me” day. She fought boldly with unwavering strength and supported others in their battles as well.
Cindy is survived by her husband and mother, as well as her brother, Daniel Holroyd of Port St. Lucie, FL; her sister, Candace Boutin of Independence, MO; and many other family and friends.
