Charles J. Stephens, Jr. – age 83, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 24th, 2024 at Briarwood Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Needham, Massachusetts after a 15 month battle with cancer.
Charles was born on April 7, 1940 to Charles J. Stephens, Sr. and Mary (Smielewicz) Stephens in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Charles was proud to enlist as a member of the US Marines during his early years. After serving his country with distinction for 4 years, Charles went on to marry the love of his life, Helen Spartichino. Together, they raised three children, Kathy, Andrea, and Barry. He retired from MBTA where he worked for many years.
Throughout his life, Charles found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether it was enjoying a game of Keno over Chinese food with his granddaughters or feeding the wildlife in his yard, whom he loved to call his kids, it was easy for him to find reasons to be happy. He was the kind of man who brought smiles and laughter to everyone he encountered.
Charles is lovingly survived by his son Barry Green, his grandchildren Rachel Delfino, Helena Delfino, Erika Green, Chad Barlow and Brandon Barlow, his sisters Winnie Carroll and Patricia Fournier, and nieces and nephews who adored him.
A Funeral Mass will be held March 23rd at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish in St.Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the MSPCA.
