Obituary for Carolyn R. Gaffny
BILLERICA – Carolyn R. (Collins) Gaffny, age 88, beloved wife of the late Henry D. Gaffny died Thursday at Brightview Concord River after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Medford, July 27, 1933 a daughter of the late Osman and Dorothy (Foss) Collins and lived in Stoneham and Billerica before retiring to Cape Coral, FL 17 years ago.
Carolyn was employed as a nurse for the former Wang Industries, more recently Lightolier was a member of the Bridge Club as well as several golf clubs and enjoyed her time being a homemaker when raising her children.
She is survived by her two sons, David Gaffny and Douglas Gaffny and his wife Theresa all of FL; one daughter, Patricia Gillespie and her husband James of Billerica; one sister, Nancy Maidrand of Shrewsbury; her grandchildren, Melissa Carlson and her husband Chris, Nicholas Gaffny, Diana Nowlin and her husband Patrick, Deidre Gaffny-Borth and her husband Garrett and Douglas Gaffny Jr. and her great-grandson Camden Nowlin. She was the sister of the late Richard, Robert and Neil Collins.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday at the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 12 noon. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 1 – 4 p.m. Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assn., www.alzheimers.org
