Carl Edward Messina Jr, a beloved husband, father, brother and friend, passed away peacefully at home on December 20, 2025, surrounded by loved ones, in Naples, Florida, at the age of 76. Born in Stoneham, MA on October 20, 1949, Carl was a long-time resident of Billerica, before relocating to Naples in 2013.
Carl proudly served in the United States Navy as a radio operator aboard the USS America. After his military service, he earned a master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and enjoyed a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry. He dedicated 36 years of his career to New England Nuclear (later Bristol Myers Squibb), where he made a lasting impact.
For over 40 years, Carl had the love and support of his devoted wife, Donna Marie Messina, by his side. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. Carl’s family and friends knew him for his love of golf, passion for travel, financial markets, and he was endlessly amused by his own humor- and those who knew him wouldn’t have it any other way. He was a dedicated fan of Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox and Patriots.
Carl is survived by his loving wife, Donna Marie Messina, his daughter Dawn Marie and partner Jeff Wagner of Mansfield, his son Carl E. Messina III of Cambridge, sister Carlene Krey of North Reading, brother John Messina of Lowell, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl Edward Sr. and Mary ‘Helen’ Messina, in-laws Edward ‘Kenny’ and Barbara Plummer and brother-in-law John Krey.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday, January 5, 2026 at Pinewood Lutheran Church, 24 Wilmington Rd., Burlington, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Fox Hill Cemetery in Billerica with military honors.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, January 5th, 2026, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Woburn Country Club, 5 Country Club Road, Woburn, where family and friends are welcome to gather and share memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Pinewood Lutheran Church, 24 Wilmington Rd., Burlington MA 01803.
