Obituary for Betty Smith
Betty W. (Welch) Smith, age 91, wife of the late Lewis H. Smith Jr. died Tuesday at Blaire House in Tewksbury. She was born March 19, 1920 in Leamington Spa, England a daughter of the late William R. and Ivy (Humphries) Welch and lived in Chatham and Billerica. Mrs. Smith served as a WAC in the US Army during WW II, received her Teaching degree and Masters at Boston University and was a Reading Specialist with the Natick and Chatham public Schools. She is survived by one son, Lewis Smith and his wife MaryAnn of Amherst, NH as well as several cousins. SMITH – Of Tewksbury formerly of Chatham, Aug. 16 Betty W. (Welch) Smith. It being her request all funeral services were held privately and at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
