Obituary for Beatrice A. Ames
Beatrice (Olivieri) Ames. Beloved wife of the late Edward Allan Ames. Mother and Mother-in-law of Marcella Ames Fox of Billerica, MA and Decherd TN, Allan E. and Eileen Ames of Reading, and Maria and Joseph Greensmith of Billerica. Grandmother of Oliver and Emily Ames, Marcella and Roger Fox, Daniel, Amy, Jill, and Michael Greensmith; Great-grandmother of Leocadia Fox. Sister of Dorothy Torpey, Corvallis, OR. Daughter of the late Marcello and Bridget Olivieri. Sister of the late Joseph, Robert, Arthur, Lucy, and Rose Olivieri.
Bea was born in Somerville and grew up in Billerica, MA. She graduated from Howe High School in Billerica. Then, she enlisted in the Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II and received her R.N. from Bellevue Hospital/New York University. After working in NYC, she enrolled at Boston College and received a BS in Nursing from Boston College (where she met her husband). During her career, she went on to receive a MSN from Boston University.
She started her career in Boston as a nurse, in her younger years, working at St Elizabeth’s and the NE Baptist Hospital. Bea became a Professor of Nursing at Boston University and then moved on to the University of Massachusetts – Lowell. Later she was an Accreditation Supervisor for the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing, and retired as the Director of Nursing, Education, and Research of the Department of Health and Hospitals, Boston City Hospital.
Bea was a caring and loving mother who loved her family and friends. She remained physically active, trying to walk every day of her life and worked on Sudoku puzzles until recently.
Funeral Friday from the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., BILLERICA at 9 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Andrew Church, Talbot Ave., Billerica at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Billerica Council on Aging, 25 Concord Rd., Billerica, MA 01821.
