Obituary for Barbara R. Blades
Barbara R. Blades Age 84, wife of William C. Blades Jr. passed away peacefully Sunday at the Life Care Center of Merrimack Valley in Billerica.


She was born in Woburn, October 20, 1924, the daughter of the late James Gibbons and Susan (Douglas) Gibbons and lived in Woburn before moving to Billerica 61 years ago.


Mrs. Blades was employed by the Tewksbury State Hospital prior to her retirement. She was an active communicant of St. Marys Church in Billerica and was a member of St. Marys Sodality. She was a member of the Billerica Emblem Club serving as the District Secretary at both the state and local level. She was a Gold Star Mother and also a member of the Pines Community Association.


Besides her husband with whom she had been married to for 65 years, Mrs. Blades is survived by her daughters, Judy Magnan and her husband Bill and Suzanne Dempsey and her husband Mike all of Billerica and Edie Soley and her husband Bob of Methuen; her grandchildren, Traci Mendes and her husband Tony, Brian Magnan and his wife Melissa, Kirk Soley and his wife Charlene, Karen Sheehan, Erin Soley, Jill Monahan and her husband Bob, Diane Dempsey, Glen Magnan and his wife Stephanie and Drew Soley; her great grandchildren, Leah, TJ, Lily, Cameron and Jack. Mrs. Blades was the mother of the late Lance Corporal William C. Blades III USMC who died in the Vietnam War.

BLADES Of Billerica, Oct. 4, Barbara R. (Gibbons) Blades wife of William C. Blades Jr. Funeral Wednesday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 9 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Church at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472. Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
