Obituary for Barbara J. Peabody
Barbara J. Peabody – Age 75, wife of the late David F. Peabody died Wednesday, Oct. 13 at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington with her loving family at her side.
She was born in Lawrence, on January 17, 1946, a daughter of the late Stanley and Jennie (Bojarski) Rys and younger sister to Joan. She was raised in Salem, NH and later moved to Methuen and then to Billerica in 1975.
Barbara was employed for Lucent Technologies in the Materials Management division and was also the AFL-CIO Union secretary prior to her retirement.
Barbara was an avid golfer, enjoying a day on the course followed by spending time with friends at the clubhouse. She and David spent many happy winters on the Gulf Coast of Florida where they spent endless hours golfing. In her younger years, she and David were members of a ski club in North Conway. For many years, she owned a home on Lake Winnipesaukee and most recently, a place on Long Sands Beach in York, ME. She was always up for a day trip with her nieces, especially if it included a stop at a new restaurant. She loved shopping of all kinds and rousing political discussions. She embraced technology and enjoyed time connecting with others on social media. Known for her perfectly coiffed hair and impeccably manicured nails, she was a fashion icon. Her deviled eggs were hit at every family function and they will be missed almost as much as she will be. She was happiest when she was spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David, her parents, her sister, and her three dogs, Tiffany, Casey, and Murphy. She is survived by her many loving nieces and nephews and her French bulldog, Jax.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday at the Fox Hill Cemetery, 130 Andover Rd., Billerica at 12 Noon. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s name to either, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org, The American Heart Association, www.heart.org or the MSPCA, www.mspca.org.
